As though it were some great ocean liner moving in the cooling winds of the Indian Ocean, The Verandah Tandoori Restaurant has just sailed into it’s twenty fourth successful year of trading in Edinburgh. Despite being firmly landlocked the analogy of an ocean liner is still interesting. The Verandah, which broke with all the conventional wisdom of what made an Indian restaurant, has become renowned for the cool fine nature of its cooking and atmosphere.
With a decor reminiscent of the first class accommodation on the majestic liners that used to ply the route between the major points of Empire. Natural wood blinds mix with restrained lighting and the aroma of fine spices to grant first class passage to all the Verandah’s patrons. Indeed just as the early traders brought the wealth of the East back to Europe in terms of spices and herbs, the Verandah has brought acclaim to the City of Edinburgh with its Les Routiers ranking as the best Indian restaurant in the Britain.
With the service, value and cuisine to match any restaurant, Indian or European, the Verandah created a new wave in the provision of Indian food. The Verandah, have created a dining experience that has proved difficult to rival. Despite being awarded every major honour that a restaurant can receive, such as Scottish Good Food Guide “Best Indian Restaurant” Award, Egon Ronay, Good Curry Guide and the Good Value Guide, The Good Food Guide the Verandah remains reassuringly low key. The intimacy of the service is never lost neither is the attention to detail, be it the fresh flowers on the table or the final hint of seasoning for a specially cooked dish. “We always remember that our customers are our most valued asset” says The Chef “and no amount of awards can shift our attention from providing the best Indian experience that we can”. |
